Blending’ Bikavér’ of Szekszárd – how to create the blend?

Presented by Elizabeth Gabay MW

Best cuvée-s are said to be better than the original wines before blending. Even if you find the ideal recipe, it is not meant for eternity, since vintages vary and so do the wines of the different vintages. Sometimes you need more Kékfrankos for its great acidity, sometimes you want more of the spiciness of Kadarka. Can you imagine how much of a challenge it is? Now you have the opportunity to look behind the curtain, learn everything about blending Bikavér with Elizabeth Gabay MW and Csilla Sebestyén Dip WSET, and try the mysterious procedure of blending!

Secrets of amphoras – wines around the world matured in qvevris

Presented by Darrel Joseph

Indigenous grape varieties fermented and aged in the clay vessels (qvevri) – it is the ancient Georgian method of winemaking.  Let’s go in depth about this with Darrel Joseph, the expert of the topic. His wine list will include wines from other countries whose winemakers are using Georgian qvevri to make their own versions (Italy, Austria Slovenia, Croatia). Participants can even taste a sparkling wine aged in qvevri! Georgia is building a school/academy for making qvevri in order to preserve – and expand – this tradition, since these „natural” or „orange” or „amber” wines have gained immense recognition and popularity.

Champagne Roederer – The Sparkling Wine of High Society

Presented by Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, chef de caves

At the 8th edition of VinCE Budapest Wine Show we offer no less than inducting our guests into the depths of the knowledge, unveiling the secrets, and letting them look behind the scenes. We present them the favourite sparkling wines of the Tzars which might be unavailable even for some celebrities, and let them peek into the glasses of the highest levels of society. Maison Roederer is primarily famous for its prestige cuvée, Cristal, which was created especially for the Tzar Alexander II in 1876 – who instantly fell in love with it. Since then, many celebrities, rappers and hip-hop stars among them, have tasted it and even have written songs about it, but the champagne house haven’t found that flattering, and even expressed its disapproval. The champagne house, which is picky with its own clientele – and has won twice the annual sparkling tasting of VinCE Magazine – selects carefully the venue of its tastings as well. But after 3 years of negotiations the VinCE Wine Show proudly presents the Champagne Roederer in Budapest.

Hungarian Winemakers around the world – Hungarian influence on international winemaking

Presented by Darrel Joseph

A highly unique and special masterclass will be held on March 18th during the VinCE Budapest Wine Show. We are very pleased to present great wines made by Hungarians, whether as winemakers or owners, from around the world, and also assess their impact and influence on different wine cultures. HARASZTY Ágoston, the ‘Father of modern winemaking in California’ may be well known, as well as GÁL Tibor’s great work in Tuscany for Super Tuscan Ornellaia, but only few people know that Hungarians were key movers and shakers in the South African wine industry in the 60s and 70s, for example, and there are other surprising examples. Have you ever tasted the Hungarian Furmint from California? Have you ever tried great wines from Italy or New Zealand made by Hungarians? If not yet, then it is high time…

The masterclass will be held by Darrell JOSEPH, Vienna-based American wine writer, expert on Central and Eastern Europe, KÖLES András, founder of the Hungarian Wine Institute, former sommelier champion of Hungary and Robert SMYTH, Budapest-based  British wine writer, author of Hungarian Wine: A Tasting Trip to the New Old World.

Wine star – the talent show for young winemakers

Moderator: Nesta, alias Frigyes Machán

VinCE started this unique show last year: during the 90 minute show 8 young winemakers present themselves, and their job is to „sell” their winery: tell thrilling stories, convince the wine merchants and experts of the jury and fascinate the audience by their wines poured for tasting. Winner of last year’s masterclass, Carpinus has already shipped a pallet of his wines to one of the member of the jury, a Taiwanese wine merchant, and VinCE Magazine has published several articles about the winery. The masterclass is worth to participate in so that one can discover the iconic winemaker of the future before others do it – and thus one can buy some wines from the talented one at good price yet.

Become an insider of top Bordeaux châteaus!

Presented by Demetri Walters MW

There are cca. 3000 wineries in Bordeaux, but just 56 châteaux of them are classified in the highest categories – they represent the peak of the quality pyramid with sky-rocketing prices. But here is a trick: those prestige estates produce their second wines, which in quality fall not far behind the 100 times more expensive first wine. Or an even better idea: look for the wines of the lower-ranked châteaux from outstanding vintages! Which one is the golden path? You can learn the answer from the presentation by the expert of Berry Bros. & Rudd, the most famous British fine wine merchant, in course of a tasting of great wines.
